Crack sealing or crack filling depending upon how you refer to the procedure is an important step in extending the life of your asphalt. There are two common culprits in developing cracks in the asphalt. First is base erosion. As the base settles beneath the asphalt surface and loses its integrity, cracks will form in the asphalt. It is important to seal those cracks with an appropriate crack sealant to reduce the negative effects of the cracks. You can reduce the severity of those cracks by filling and sealing them. By sealing these cracks, you will divert water to the berm of the asphalt instead of allowing the water to settle in the base which can cause more erosion. The second harmful component is the Sun. Once a crack develops, the UV from the sun can cause more damage during the expansion of the crack. Crack filling can block out the damaging UV rays that will deteriorate the inside walls of a crack.

We use 100% professional-grade, rubberized asphalt crack sealer to fill cracks so moisture won't get into your asphalt's foundation. Hot-Applied Crack Sealant is a flexible, rubber-like commercial grade product that is used to repair cracks of any length or width in asphalt pavements. It starts out as a solid, rubber block which is then melted in a special kettle and is heated to 400 degrees. Once melted, the crack filler is applied to the cracks. The crack filler hardens up deep inside the crack, sealing out moisture from penetrating the asphalt. This prevents it from causing further crack development and promotes a long lasting repair and an attractive appearance. It is designed to remain flexible, allowing it to expand and contract with the outside air climate.

In areas that have several interlacing cracks we use Gatormat. Gatormat is a blend of asphalt emulsion, high molecular weight acrylic polymer, graded rubber and fine ceramic aggregate designed to fill cracks on asphalt pavement surfaces. Gatormat is used in areas where there are several interlacing cracks that we refer to as alligatored asphalt. High elastomeric content minimizes shrinkage in deep and/or wide cracks. Insures greater bonding, durability and flexibility. Lightweight ceramic aggregate improves spreadability for easy feathering on asphalt surfaces. This polymer fortified emulsion reinforced with fine aggregate provides a durable mastic for alligatored areas.
